When we had the second floor porch redone, it raised the height of the door, causing the need to allow for a higher threshold. This, along with a badly laid tile floor, necessitated a new floor with a landing inside of the new front door. It was a difference of only 1 and 1/2 inch, and our contractor suggested an inlaid tile design to draw the eye to the difference to avoid tripping. We used a local tile artist to design a compass type medallion using stone with colors found in the house. We are very happy with how it turned out!
Some before photos of the old floor, and a few of the new floor and medallion....
Before...and after!
